“Oiche na Deich Seol” is an Údaras na Gaeltachta Public Art / Percent for Art Commission devised and managed by the artist Ceara Conway. It is also funded by the Galway County Council.
Context:
Our intention is to work with a group of young adults from Tir an Fhiato host their own festival. All elements of the festival are based on their experiences and perspectives of living in Tir an Fhia.
The project is taking into account their response to local history, new and old stories, and the element of being able to make changes in their own environment.
Thia is being done through the mediums of cartoon animations, letter writing ( the group are currently writing a number of letters to various bodies requesting changes they wish to see on postcards that they have made),t-shirts, badges, posters, which will be sold on the night of the festival.
The children are also learning how to facepaint and will be face painting people who come to their festival.
All works will be sold on the night of the festival and it is the children who will be working on the stalls ( with support from a team) .
The artists who have been invited to work on this project are, Peter Casby,Tommy Casby and Sharon Lynch. At present there is a core group of 15 children working on creating this festival and throughout the summer their will be more.
