Professional Statement
I’m from Nürnberg, Germany, living in Ireland. My interests as an artist involve both image-making (film, video & photography) & writing (short stories). Working across different disciplines, it is the ideas behind a particular work that structure & guide my process. In 2010, I completed a PhD with Visual Practice examining the "Visibilities of Childhood in Moving Image", combining art-based methods with recent discourse from cultural geography, visual anthropology & sociology. I continue to work with the themes of childhood and children in my own practice, but also run workshops for the primary school age group in which I combine principles of visual literacy and storytelling, using lens-based media, writing and collage. I have taught part-time in the School of Art & Design at University of Ulster since 2001 & am a member of the curatorial board at VOID gallery, Derry.
