Professional Statement

Plot / Ceapach (an ongoing project) explores land use and our relationships with land and with each other. I select sites where tensions related to the industrial use of land exist. Echoing the “contrapuntal thinking” of Edward Said the work does not privilege the narrative of expert knowledge over that of lived experience, but instead attempts to reveal the many distinct voices. My practice utilises Paintings, Site Visits and Site Actions as a way into conversations with people about land use. Since I opened my studio to children in 2010 I am increasingly aware of the cross fertilization of ideas with regards to art thinking and making (about how we live today) that occurs intuitively between child and artist.
