A new two year taught Masters in Socially Engaged Art (Further, Adult and Community Education) will commence this September in NCAD. The MA SEA(FACE) focuses on the dynamic relationship between socially engaged arts practice and pedagogy, particularly within further education, non-formal educational and community settings, with an embedded qualification to teach in the FE sector (subject to Teaching Council accreditation). Recognising the range of methodologies used in art practices that draw on educational concepts and forms and the potential of socially engaged art to inform discourses within education, the MA SEA(FACE) is a site for experimental learning and critical debate between socially engaged art practice and arts education. The new course builds on and replaces the GDip in Community / Arts / Education which has been in existence for ten years. The MA SEA(FACE) will attract students from a range of disciplines who want to immerse themselves in a trans-disciplinary enquiry. Applicants should have a Level 8 (BA Hons) degree in art or design or in another discipline altogether but with a personal and demonstrable commitment to the arts in social contexts.
