Practice Exhibition Tour - Next stop axis: Ballymun

What happens when artists and children work together?


The ’Practice’ Exhibition Tour opens at axis: Ballymun on Monday, 3 March with a public launch at 5pm. 


‘Practice’ is a national touring exhibition of work by artists and children, created through joint processes of exploration and enquiry. ’Practice’ presents an opportunity for insight into a range of projects by artists Helen Barry, Ann Donnelly, Naomi Draper, Ann Henderson, Maree Hensey, Fiona Kelleher and Christine Mackey.


The exhibition will be accompanied by a programme of events for artists, children, families and the general public: 


Practice Day for Artists
Monday 3 March, 10.00am - 4.45pm


An opportunity for artists to spend a day interacting with other artists who are passionate about working with children and young people, exploring different approaches and ways of working, and considering the work being presented through the ’Practice’ exhibition with exhibiting artists.

Live Studio Investigations 
Tuesday March 4th, 11th, 18th 
10.00 - 11.30 am 


As part of Ann Henderson’s contribution to the exhibition, the artist will undertake live investigations from her studio based on Rathlin Island. During these 4 designated periods, live footage will be projected in the gallery, giving visitors to the gallery the opportunity to see the artist at work and to follow her processes and lines of enquiry in real time. Ann will take sequences of still images during these periods and these will be projected in the venue while she is not online. Free, no booking required


Shared Investigations 
Tuesday March 4th, 11th, 18th 
12.30 - 2pm 


During designated times, Ann Henderson will continue her live studio investigations from Rathlin Island, and will be open to engaging with members of the public in the gallery in shared investigation via remote communication. Visitors to the gallery at those times will be encouraged to interact with the artist and her investigations and processes using the technology provided.
