Grandparents day - part two.

Grandparents day - part two.

The way the actual meeting with the Grandparents went is that they were offered a chair in the class room and we all sat around the grandmother or Grandfather - all the different individual Grandparents seemed quite comfortable with this and had plenty to say. ( The children also brought them tea and biscuits) Lukes Grandparents ( Mr and Mrs Reddin ) Were the last to come, there was a great buzz about Mr. Reddin`s arrival and he was reported as quite a a character. Mrs Reddin was very, shy and sat next to him while he chatted away, we also wanted to hear from her and some of her stories were revealed. It was very special to have these people inside the classroom and I was surprised how very much things had changed for children in Portumna over the past sixty years. Striking stories such as bringing three sods of turf to school so that the fire would be kept going, several accounts of hearing Banshees, playing in the field for hours and the fierce discipline in school. Mrs. Quins family had been scattered between the UK and Ireland but were now mostly settled back in the area with the youngest members being here in the class ( Luke ).
We also managed to get the last few sessions of the object pieces filmed. So these need to be edited in this week, with some excerpts from Grandparents day hopefully too.
I will spend the next couple of days reviewing and preparing for the open day - plan to have the video piece running, some of the photographs and drawings exhibited.
