Open day - Rathcabbin

This is a long outdated blog, as I have taken a break between the two halves of the project and am getting back into gear now.I have just uploaded some new images and I am going to refer back to the open day in December 08.

It was a very exciting and fun packed day. We basically had to reshape the class room in order to bring in the various groups. We had the younger classes, the parents and the class from the Galway school with the artist Triona.

The students were exceptionally helpful as we took down the existing displays and replaced them with our large drawings and photographs from the project, we also strung washing lines across the class room and pegged up their collage family house projects... it was busy and a little chaotic.

We had tested out the projection of our video piece the previous week and it had looked grand. This open day was however the sunniest day in December! So we could not find a shady spot to show the film. We tried black bin bags on the window, rearranged the furniture but to no great avail. I was getting annoyed at myself for not having thought of this happening before. Eventually we managed to get a half reasonable light to show it in and as the groups came in we showed it several times, we had a great response, with the fellow teachers also really seeming be enjoying the presentation. Some of the grandparents who had visited us on grandparents day also came along so it became quite a gathering - al ot of fun!

I realize however that for the next open day we will use the hall ( which I didn`t realize we had access too ) as this will give us much more space to spread out and present the work with more ease.
