    Editorship commenced: 2011-12-01

Alison Cronin is a practising visual artist and arts facilitator based in West Cork. A graduate of the BA in Visual Art, DIT / Sherkin Island, she has been working as Schools and Youth Coordinator at West Cork Arts Centre in Skibbereen since 2003, developing and delivering participatory and collaborative projects for primary and second level schools, and young people in out of school contexts.

Core annual programmes include the Primary Schools Classroom-based Programme, in which school groups develop visual arts projects in response to a gallery visit, and Friday Night Youth Arts, a contemporary art group for 13 - 18 year olds.

Outside of her role at WCAC Alison travelled to Estonia in 2011 to deliver a presentation on gallery-based approaches to art education, as part of the IDEAlaboratory attached to Eksperimenta! Contemporary Art Trienniale for School Students, and also this year received Artist in the Community Scheme Research and Development phase funding from Create, for the development of a film project with St Colums GAA and community club planned for 2012. Her primary media include drawing, film, photography and installation work.

For her guest editorship she will be exploring beginnings, and how we, as artists, find a place to start when working collaboratively.
