Day 11 on the 23/09/09
Wednesday was the first day back after the summer. As organised with the others we all did a theme of Neighbours. There where 8 children in my morning session. The eldest a boy of 14 was very interested and after i had shown him to make a puppet he proceeded to show three of the yougher boys,this was such a great help as it was a big group and also the other boys look up to him ,so it made them feel free to enjoy and play with out having to impress since this is what he was doing. There was also a 14 year old girl in the session who was very suppostive to the other children. I brought in lots of shoe boxs which the children transformed into different rooms, or a whole house, hotel and a garden. once they had made there environment we went on to make there puppets which lived in there house, they named there village and then went for lunch.
They all agreed to come back for the link up as a later time suited beaumont. This worked out well as we still hadent played with the puppets, after lunch they visited there neighbours and showed them around then the puppet from house no 4 invited them to a football match at 7 which all agreed to attend, the lady gardener puppet didnt want to play football but made refreshments for all.
We then linked up with beaumont and talked to siobhan and the boy she was working with they showed us around what they had done which the children all though was great and where very impressed by how much the two of them had done, we then showed them around are village and introduced them to all our characters, the children then invited them to play football. So beaumont set up there own field and we played at the same time and filmed the link up. After the refreshments where given out and the puppets at beaumont had some to. I think it was a very successfull link up and there was some great interaction. Im glad it went ahead as the children where really excited about it and with are extended web cam we where able to give the other hospital a guided tour.
After this session i went into the play room, as there where alot of the same children i decided to make plaster cast animals with them, which the play room volunteers where going to help them paint the next day.
I feel the joint theme really made the ait eile link work well.
