Meeting 1_Anything in common?
On Saturday 27th October, the artists and teachers involved in this four-strand residency met for the first time. Everyone presented informally about their practice or school and interests. I had no previous knowledge of the school to which I had been matched or the teacher with whom I would be working.
I have to say I really enjoyed both presenting an overview of my work from the past five years or so, and hearing from the other artists. It reminded me just how diverse every artist`s approach is and I am excited to see how all four residencies will develop.
Luckily the teacher with whom I will be working was excited about the themes within my practice and what I had vaguely, initially proposed bringing to the residency.
We proceeded to work through a basic activity together which explored a little of the theme I had in mind, the approach I would usually take when working with children and the kinds of materials I had been observing. It was a nice way to get to know each other a little better and to discuss possibilities for the classroom.
