puppet portal day 2 phase 2

The teachers are entering the Irish Aid competition so we are going to do different cultures every week to make up the world and make puppets based on the culture. This week we started with Africa, I had lots of pictures printed out of african people, music, puppets, mask and art. The children each decided what kind of puppet they where going to make, over the morning session there where 10 children which was very crazy and alot of work as i had to be in five places at once. Luckily both teachers where great and helped.

The puppets where made out of newspaper and masking tape and then painted in vivid colours and patterns. there were 2 giraffes, an antelope, a buffelo, a man, and lots more animals, when some of the children had made there puppets and they where drying, they made a 3d version of africa out of paper and paint, this was left for us as we are hoping to have a whole world by the end of the project.

We where so busy in the morning so we joined the link up and video together which worked very well. We linked with Finnula at her home she got together african music and played it while we performed on the table that the children had made into a set. One of the kids acted as director and using the web cam let finnula watch us perform, he also gave commentry. Was really nice little video.

Afternoon i worked in isolation ward with a little girl i have worked with alot in the past we made three puppets and she hung them around her room. I then went and worked with a boy also in an isolation ward also a patient who ive worked with alot, he was very tired so i pre made a puppet and brought him down some paint, with the help of his sister we painted him up and hung him on the wardrobe. Unfortunately in both the afternoon sessions i couldnt take any pictures everything that went in to the room had to stay in the room.

lots of laughing in the morning, and some smiles in the afternoon
