Day 7 puppet portal phase 2

Today we had an Irish Aid day. The school have been doing a project about what irish eat and what the african eat for the irish aid project. We made rod puppets in a similar way to last week. When we decorated them the children picked weither there puppet was african or Irish. There was 5 children but one left early on. There was a big age gap from 4 to 13. The two 13 year olds while happy to make and draw the background where not very excited about performing with the puppets. When one of them took over the recording she took on the role of interviewer which was great asking the puppets the difference about there houses, water, food and music. We had an irish village and an ethiopian village on the back drop. Funnily enough the two children who had done the irish puppets drew the african village and vica versa.

One of the younger puppeteers left before performance leaving three. I could see the yougher girl was very playfull but the  teenagers where not getting into playing with the puppets. We used fionnulas lovely music and that inspired dancing.

In the afternoon i was introduced to three children on the wards. I went to visit a 5 year old girl who had made friends with the 7 year old girl from my morning session she sat on the bed and should her how to make it, she brought her puppet along to play, she was tired so we left her rest.

I then went to work with another 13 year old boy one on one.He wanted to make a monkey so i went back to the class room to get materials and figure out how to make him. he made a marrionette and it was lovely very detailed ,his mom helped she said she hadnt painted anything sine she was a kid. he moved really nice and i was able to take a picture. I will attatch pic.

Then i went to visit a boy in the isolation ward, we made a donkey and we had a nice chat, he is going to dry and then the lovely play specialist is going to go in with pva in morning as the masking tape wasnt quite holding him together.

A long but enjoyable day
