Day 9 puppet portal phase 2
I was in today instead of wednesday as the school is shut on wednesday.
Today we went to lapland . We turned toe socks into elves,santas,raindeer and snowmen. I had a group of 7 but it didnt feel big today. First we made heads from paper ,then we made all but the raindeer some wooly hats as its cold in lapland but not in the hospital thats for sure. We made lots of lovely out fits and then we made a stage for the performance. I was lots of fun ,a few kids had to leave during the performance but we roped in two of the teacher trainees to come and use there puppets. With are oldest girl of 14 being camera women.
In the afternoon i went onto the wards with the ipad. one little boy played the puppet game while a nurse took out his fredie(what the children call a butterfly cannula). Then another boy made a western on it.
I then went into a little girl in isolation,she made emma the elf. She asked me to get one of the teachers to show off her puppet and she showed the nurses too she then hung it up on the drip stand.
All the puppets had loops at the back of there heads just incase they wanted to hang them on the christmas tree.
Today i learned its an enjoyable job but you really need a thick skin when sick children are involved.
