Tosach maith leath na h-oibre
Our first weekend of the Rannta na nDise project kicked off in Dungarvan. Polly Minnett (artist) and myself held four workshops in the childrens section of the library working with 3-4 year olds and their accompanying adult or duine fsta. Our aim is to collect nursery rhymes new and old in the Irish, English and other languages reflecting the diversity of communities in the county.
Three to four year olds are wonderful to work with, and after an initial chat and finding out names, children and adults shared their rhymes and soon got stuck in making pictures, printing cutting and sticking. This age group seem to know exactly what they want to achieve artistically and have no problem issuing orders to their helpers.
As Dungarvan is a stones throw from the Ring Gaeltacht, we were delighted to have Irish speaking participants and have several rhymes in Irish to include in our collection.
