Meeting 2_From the windows

I paid a visit to Scoil Naisiunta Bhride on Thursday to meet with Charlotte to discuss my first day with the children and to see the space that we would work in over the coming months. The first thing that I noticed about the school was the amount of long windows that lit up every corner and showed glimpses of green, sky and sea. From the classroom windows there is a view out onto the playground, beside which construction on a wall and building has just started. Charlotte and I discussed the possibilities of this in relation to our theme - observing the changing landscape through the windows over the coming year, by the end of which the buildings should be complete. We also discussed the possibility of placing grow-boxes in the window and planting in them to watch a different kind of growth contrasting the construction.
I`m excited by the idea of observing the changing sky, the changing weather (drops and streams on the window obstructing the view), the changing landscape outdoors and created-environments indoors. I`m thinking about weekly visual recordings....

Charlotte filled me in on the kinds of subjects she would be working on over the coming months. Local geography was one that seemed to naturally tie in with some of my ideas. My first day with the children will entail some map-making and visually/verbally exploring the geography of the areas the children are from.
