Being and Belonging Day 3 and 4

Being and Belonging Day 3 and 4

When Katie arrived today she knew where she was going next, explaining after she had looked around for a moment “Granny, we are going on a bear hunt…!”.

Each week I am building a pattern of events based on the story We Are Going On A Bear Hunt. Using an obstacle course we move through the space and the story, leading us to one of the locations within the story and a focused activity. Each week these locations and environments are altered and changed by the children in their activities. Their finished pieces of work becoming part of the space and helping it grow each week.

…….Squelch squerch! Last week the group played with clay. We started by digging through clay to find paper worms, bugs and beetles. We then used the clay to plant seeds. Following this we used modelling clay to make shapes, marks, worms, dogs and a big ball. Some of the children were apprehensive about getting dirty in the clay, while others spent a lot of time playing with it.

….Hooooo wooooooo! Today we found a snowstorm. Making snow angels the children lay on giant black disks while their parents and guardians used chalk to draw their silhouettes.  White materials were laid out and the children collaged and painted the surfaces. They were fascinated with the different textures and after their break they returned again to play with the materials, mixing them into cups, filiing, spilling and re-filling them again.
