Day 5_Time constraints

It is proving difficult to find time to sit down with Charlotte to discuss what is happening in the residency. When we do manage it, the discussion is very constructive. In our last meeting Charlotte expressed her interest in creating one-off pieces that she would like to have the time to make in art class but does not, some that are season or holiday specific. I explained that I was more interested in long-term ideas that expand and grow over the weeks. We shared our individual ideas and tried to find some balance.

I also expressed an interest in how Charlotte approaches science subjects, which is very much rooted in practical experiments and related notes. I would like her assistance to bring this method of investigation into the residency sessions - looking at weather, water, growth and earth in relation to the abundance of windows in the classroom, the proximity to the sea, the construction work in the school yard, and the siezograph. This would involve splitting the children into groups and demand more of both myself and Charlotte to keep things flowing.

Last week I factored in the journal timewise, but found it hard to get a unanimous entry, working with the children as a group to construct sentences and decide on what was important to upload. Hopefully this week, with Charlotte back, we can work on this and also work on the children`s individual notebooks, making them a valuable part of every session.
