Day 10_Outer and inner selves

I began the day by presenting work from a residency that I had undertaken in Leitrim and which had involved documenting areas of the county which remained unchanged by economic progress but were in the process of doing so both in terms of the landscape and in society. I had conducted interviews with a cross-section of community and had worked on photography, video alongside the resulting audio and text.

The children responded well to this work and we discussed how our recent changes in direction toward looking at ourselves within our natural environment could potentially explore a kind of social narrative of the place.

We continued with the portraits from the previous week, taking our interior worlds into consideration - how we have a world of interests and activities within that create our individuality. We then moved onto making mind-map like imagery of ourselves and all of those things of importance that are in our lives. We looked at the solar system, which the children had been working on in class, as a basis for how we could think about this mind-map.
