Day 2 - Talks and Workshop
I met with three schools on Tuesday morning. Each school was responsible for a piece of work displayed in the Gallery and the talked me through the ideas and the processes involved in making the work. I then invited them to look at work I had made on three residencies which shared some similarities in terms of theme. These residences were in the Leitrim Sculpture Center, The Ark Cultural Centre for Children and with Cairns NS in Sligo through Kids` Own Publishing Partnership. I asked the children to pick out something from the `thinking wall` that they would like to know about. The conversation started from there. I would call on the digital presentation at points to give more detail. The children saw ideas unfold from sketch or note to finished installation, for example, and in a broader sense from residency to residency. In the afternoon I met with seven children aged 3-5yrs and we worked on the idea of creating a space and then occupying it with images of ourselves. I had asked the staff at the centre to help me to construct a simple `den` in the corner of the room. I worked with the children on creating `portraits` to leave inside this `den`, so creating a space for ourselves.
