Puppet Portal Day 11 - Hospital C

Very low numbers on our first day back but we really enjoyed ourselves and made some shows we were proud of.

Based on the theme of Neighbours I brought in some odd bits and pieces and told participants I am the local Nosey Neighbour and like to collect my neighbour`s belongings and find secret things out about their lives. We investigated the things I had `found` and gave them labels like an archaelogical study - imagining who they had belonged to, in what time and what they had done with them e.g.  A yellow marigold glove became a relic of a middle-aged Waterworks engineer.  Then everyone was set a challenge to choose one item and incorporate it into a puppet.  It was a fun, easy way to set off imaginations with ready made materials.

Presently, a home for the puppets was created and a `Welcome to my Crib` type tour performed for children in another hospital.  Then we got a chance to nosey into the homes of their puppets and we were invited to take part in a football game and a party..we were even fed cake through the screen! Cyber cake Yum!

In the afternoon, I made a `Kilkenny Cat` puppet by the bedside of a shy little supporter.  This wasn`t easy for a recently defeated Tipperary woman but he quite enjoyed my angst and made a little video about the Spirit of the Kilkenny Cat who lies sleeping in the Castecomer mines dreaming about a 6 year old hurling prodigy who will grow up to beat the socks off Tipp in another All Ireland.

Fun Day back! Working on a group theme makes structuring the activities much easier I feel - there is more focus for me to guide the participants input.
