Puppet Portal Week 13 - Hospital C

Today the theme for our virtual link-up space was Market.  We kicked off with an imagination game.  The first person said the line `I went to the market with a -----in my basket and swopped it for a -------` The next person started their line with the last thing in the basket and swopped it for another form their imagination.  It introduced the idea of barter economies and personal value systems as well as being  an opportunity to think of just about anything.  There were baskets of sharks, chocolates, cars, houses and planets even!

In the actual construction of the market place, the participants explored a mix of their own `realistic` shopping wishlist e.g fruit, veg, clothes and some random products eg a mouse, body parts.

All chose sock puppets - I usually introduce myself in wards at morning with a sock puppet and I think this influences most choices.

Our market was just about ready when we watched a performance by the participants of another hospital and then performed for them.  There was quite a bit of interaction `through` the screen - one side borrowed 25 from the other to buy a hand (bartering forgotten!) which the second side brought back to the other to taste.

Later we videoed our own show with rod puppet customers modelled on the participants themselves using a free webtool called `Webface` with which you can design and print self portraits check out http://mywebface.mywebsearch.com/download/index.jhtml?partner=GRxdm039&spu=true&sub_id=5487

During both performance my input was considerable in the role of a puppet as there were only two participants - one very quiet and the other (a teenager) who wanted to operate the camera rather than perform.  I`d like to stand back more but at some times feel there is some support needed even when we have scripted the performance.  Its hard not to get too involved. I`d like to rethink my tactics on that one.

Overall a good day - even achieved `Fun Scale` survey and writing up of Diary.  Time management getting much more manageable!  The needs of the participants have not yet been as diverse or demanding however as the previous term.
