Feelings Day 4 Phase 2 Hospital F

Are there any feelings inside of there (the puppet)?

Yes. Both happiness and pain

Happiness and pain! And why is there happiness and pain?

Because I am happy and Im sore after my operation.

And can we see where you are sore from your operation?

There

Ouch that looks bit sore alright. And what  the best thing for you to do when you feel sore?

Twirling!

And where the best place to go when youre sore?

Surpriseland!

Surpriseland was created during todays workshop. The name kind of encapsulates every day we do Puppet Portal in the playroom. I may go in with a plan but Im never sure what will come out.  Usually though, like today, its a pleasant surprise.

A local artist joined me today as I prepare (sadly) to handover facilitating workshops in this hospital and move on to another.  Having two people makes managing the workshops much smoother as there is always so much going on at once.

A couple of nice inventions emerged during this collaboration including a puppet mobile built across an elastic line on the bed of a young boy. On that same bed we built our stage today and performed with Inside Out puppets.  Building bodies with acetated, we could design both the inside and the outside and it opened up conversations things we feel on the inside and on the outside, very naturally amongst the puppets and their puppeteers. It was one of the most satisfying workshops Ive given because I think it allowed us to talk about pain, emotions and imagination in a very gentle way.

A ten minute puppet-making marathon with a child in an isolation ward (he was on his way to treatment) was also a short and sweet intervention in a day spent mostly in the playroom.
