To the Moon and Back Day 5 Phase 2 Hospital F

Thanks to Eszter Nemethi, the newest addition to the Puppet Portal Artist`s team, we had a fantastic, fun day in the hospital today with projectors and shadow creatures of all kind.

Again, a day working as a pair went very smmothly and there was lots of room for improvisation with a large group of children. Being behind a screen and moving trhough a series of fantasy lands projected on it made performing easier because I think the children simply got lost. We managed a wonderful rehearsal and then performed to some musical puppets (courtesy of Fionnuala Conway) across Ait Eile.  The puppets in turn serenaded us with some moon music.

A remarkable feature of this hospital is the determination of the playroom staff to enable all children, bed bound or not, to participate. So we helped wheel beds in and out over the course of the day to join in the play and puppetry.

n the afternoon we made another video with a little girl using the sunlight as the lightsource that created a dreamy quality to the performance. Later a few more children arrived keen to make puppets. Thanks to the fact that there was two of us there, we were able to split up and while Siobhan stayed in the playroom I headed off to make some puppets with a boy in isolation who we met briefly the week before. He was very excited by the idea of puppets, and luckily the torch worked satisfactorily as a lighting source. He made two dragons who played a lot of hide and seek. It was lovely to see how dedicated the boy was to the play inventing voices, names and ages for the two dragons.
