Questions about documenting Early Years Arts projects


I would like to share a few thoughts on documenting Early Years Arts projects. Background is a recent experience where blogging about an arts project in an Early Years Setting was considered as not compatible with child safety guidelines. Whilst totally accepting this decision this got me thinking- and triggered some questions which I would like to put forward to the community of artists working with young children.


- Negotiating use of photographic images is code of practice. But which other means of documentation do you negotiate with the children’s carers before starting a project? Images, sounds, quotes, blogs?


- What is the value of a blog (or other published documentation) on an early year’s arts project?


- How can we as artists make sure to fully respect and protect the children’s rights?


- What is the value or the necessity of documenting and sharing experiences? How can we as artists communicate this?
