Project Outline

We do what we do in order to create learning and living environments for children and young people in which they can fully realise themselves in full social harmony

Katherine Zeserson, Director of Learning and Participation, The Sage Gateshead.

REFLECT Lab co-mentoring is a dynamic, collaborative learning process for people across sectors, developed by The Sage Gateshead (UK), which was successfully piloted in 2007/08 in schools, in the wider education sector and cultural organisations in the UK.  Helium, a new arts and health organisation for children and families have adopted the model and will, for the first time, run REFLECT Lab in Ireland.  The co-mentoring which takes place in the workshops will aim to develop skills, confidence, and knowledge by bringing artists and healthcare workers together in co-mentoring pairs.  People taking part are given the opportunity to pause, reflect, reconnect, and reappraise their professional practice from a new perspective.  Previous co-mentors have shared values, explored different points of view, and re-focused their work with children and young people as a direct consequence of exploring their own creative practice.   To find out more about the programme,  you can contact Helium on reflect@helium.ie.  For more information on Heliums many very interesting projects with children, such as the puppet portal project and infant imaginings, an arts based research and development project, go to www.helium.ie

REFLECT Lab is funded under the Arts Council of Ireland Local Partnership Scheme with additional funding and support from Sligo County Council and HSE WEST.  It is being hosted at The Model, Sligo, and The Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny.
