    Created 03/16/2012 by Stephanie Jaax

    Location: Dublin and Cork -

    Duration: 03/16/2012 to 03/15/2014

Project Outline

The art groups are designed for children between 8 and 13 years. Media such as painting, sculpture, film are explored to obtain a know - how. The aim is to transpose emotions into work of art. By applying his own imagination the child constructs new objects and shapes (plaster sculptures) amongst other works of art. Subsequently he will invent a title for the work he has created, which will constitute a new signifier revealing a new meaning. The latter will be adapted to the obvious topic arising during the process of the group. This adaptation is progressively done first in pairs and then in the group.

The artistic process is divided into different

phases:

    Painting/Collage

    Sculpturing and work with plaster

    Improvisation, dialogues and film

During the initial phase the playful side of the artistic process will be promoted (e.g. painting to music, color experiments, sensory stimulation). This first phase is about letting go of purposeful action in order to transpose the child’s feelings and emotions around certain topics into painting. During this phase the emphasis is for each child to describe his painting. The fact of putting words on to his image permits the appearance of another meaning. This combination of several signifiers will be used for each individual to create a collage. The second phase focuses on improvised sculpturing with plaster. In the third phase each child is asked to create a dialogue with his sculpture. The latter are obviously a result of the interaction in the workshop. The dialogues will be recorded and inserted into the film of the sculptures that will be made. Selected work of the different phases will beexhibited including the projection of the final film, which each child will obtain at the end.

The final work facilitates an additional revelation about ourselves and our relation to others.

During the process of the workshop each child’s creativity and artistic competence are used in order to transform imaginary ideas into the work of art.

The workshops will be held over 3 days one weekend per months in Dublin and one weekend in Cork..

The venues will be annonced once the groups have formed. Minimum are 8, maximum are 10 participants.
