  • Arts in Education Teacher / Artist partnership (Early Years / Aistear)

    Created 2016-09-29 by Lucy Hill

Location: Breaffy Co. Mayo - Co. Mayo

    Duration: 2016-09-29 to 2016-12-16

Project Outline

A lead Teacher/Artist team were selected for each county to recieve training and carry out a project in the teachers school. The project will be used as the basis of CPD training for a further 20 teachers and 4 artists in each county. My teacher partner is Mairead Murphy, Breaffy National School Co. Mayo. Mairead is a learning support teacher so we decided to select participants for the project from children who Mairead works with so we had a mixed age group from senior infants to sixth class. We worked in a space outside school, in the beautiful Breaffy woods. Our project aimed to work to everyones strengths using the woods as inspiration, so we ended up with sculptures, land art, magic potion recipies, poems, songs, a forest orchestra, maps, drawings, scrap book collections, paintings, mud cakes......and evidence that working across age groups in school is productive, healthy and alot of fun.
