    Created 2009-08-15 by Jojo Hynes

Location: Urban - Co. Galway, Co. Galway

    Duration: 2009-08-15 to 2009-08-23

Project Outline

P.S.I Tuam was a collaborative multi media art project based on public space from a youth perspective in Tuam, Co. Galway. It was a week long investigation that ended in a conclusion exhibition as part of Earwig! Tuam Arts Festival. The week long investigation challenged and informed peoples perceptions of public space and its many uses.

The project involved the community and young people and public space.

In the Tuam project we were based in the Arts Lab, there were  six young people involved with local musicians, artists and actors dropping in to the space to contribute to the different ideas. The project addressed the perceptions of young people in small towns and how they can change those perceptions.

Through video, photoraphy, sound and installation the young people showed their view on public space.

The finished pieces are

`lean` a performance video piece about the tradition of loitering at the town hall involving members of the community.

`conversation couch` a portable couch that was used to collect stories from the public and when exhibited played the stories through speakers.

`Youth of Today` a music video with an original song that was produced with the help of padraig stevens.

`No ball games` a video performance about lack of social space for teenagers that involved members of the community.

`myspace?!` photographs showing the outdoor spaces used by young people to socialise.

`afterdark` photoraphs taking in the park at night
