Project Outline

The Ark is preparing for an invasion of Crafted Creatures this spring, when every floor of our award-winning building will come to life with animal-themed Irish craft. With free entry to our specially commissioned exhibition, and workshops starting from 8, Crafted Creatures is the perfect introduction to the magic of craft for children and families.


Presented by The Ark in partnership with the Crafts Council of Ireland as part of Year of Craft 2011.


 


PUBLIC PROGRAMME - February 19th - March 27th 2011


Exhibition  Free entry


Explore a captivating world of crafted soft toys, pets, insects, underwater creatures and mythical beasts, with activity sheets to help reveal the secrets used to bring materials like clay, wool and willow to life as wonderful pieces of art.


Craft Workshops  Tickets 10/8*


Starting with a guided tour of the exhibition, children will work with expert craftspeople   to explore weekly animal themes using materials like clay, wire, fabric, rubber and plastic. The content of each workshop will be appropriate for your child`s age group (toddlers, 4-7 year olds and 8-12 year olds).


In partnership with the National Museum of Ireland, Crafted Creatures will feature two special events Meet stuffed animals on Saturday 19th Feb (from the Natural History Museums collection) and Find Crafted Creatures Trail - a fun self-guided weekend treasure-hunt trail for families at the National Museum of Ireland Collins Barracks, The Ark, and in some surprising places along the way. Free entry

SCHOOLS PROGRAMME - February 15th - April 1st 2011


Running in tandem with the exhibition, our schools craft workshops invite children to unleash their imagination and give potential to explore aspects of the primary school visual arts curriculum.
