    Duration: 2012-08-31 to 2012-12-21

Project Outline

Starting a Thread is a fibre art project in Scoil Mochua, Celbridge, working with 6th class students over a 16 week period to introduce the craft of sewing and its versatility. Each pupil will make and construct a textile lantern, which will be installed in the Sensory Garden for the Christmas Carol Service.

90 students will be introduced to fibre art skills during once weekly workshops where each child will make a textile abstract drawing, with threads, on calicoEach work will form a cover over a section of a plastic bottle, fitted with an LED bulb and battery, to construct a lantern.

The textile works will be small scale extracts from very large individual drawings on paper. The drawing will incorporate natural elements from the school’s Garden and imagination. These sketches will inform the final stitched line.
