  • The handbag project

    Created 2008-10-24 by sharon kelly

    Location: Urban - Co. Antrim

    Duration: 2008-10-24 to 2009-04-30

Project Outline

The project is part of Paragon Studios outreach programme. It iwas  initiated by Sharon Kelly and planned through several discussions with the Head of Art, Elizabeth Murphy in Strathearn Grammar School Belfast. We have taken the subject of `handbags` which interests the participants who are all upper sixth girls (its a girls school) and used that as a starting point to explore a wide range of issues. It is a project that can be easily integrated into the girl`s own A level Art programme and stand alone as a project - it was important that this did not distract the girls from these studies, but aims to help the generation of ideas, trying various approaches, encouraging the girls to experiment, exploring meaning and content and not be afraid of `failure`.

We hope to organize and exhibit  the outcomes in the PS2 Project Space within Paragon Studios. It is a street level space and perfect for drawing passers by in....
