Gentle Blue Workshop 1

We looked at the colour blue today. In our story blue fills the sky, the seas the rivers and lakes. It makes a spectacular fountain, cries tears and brings rainbows to the hills and valleys. The children were captivated by the story telling. I used cut out characters, and chalks to draw on a big sheet behind me and the story unfolded. We had a shower under a fountain of tiny pieces of blue paper. They loved all this and gave it their full attention. We then made a river on a long piece of paper taped to the floor. They loved wetting the paper with damp sponges then piling on blue paint, dipping their sponges into big paint tubs. We mades swirls and waves marks with the sponges. Then we got right in making little fish to swim in the river putting feet into tubs of red and purple paint and stepping though the river. After washing in big tubs of warm water they then stuck cut out coloured lily pads onto the river. They loved the repetition of this kind of activity,... take the lily pad from a pile bring it to the river stick it down and go back for more... We took a break and ate blue blueberries followed by stitting by a cut out boat I had stuck to the wall. We sang row the boat then they dipped coloured pieces of paper into water and stuck it onto the cut out boat. We sat back down in the story area then to talk about what we had made and about what blue was like.
