Expedition and Exhibition

This week we worked on wrapping up projects we have been doing for the last two weeks. One group was working on Skytraffic, filmed sky characters on a round screen [shadow-puppetry].
The other group finished the oral narration of their scroll maps. After tying these things up, we worked on a group sculpture of the sky charaters (group one) and large map collage (group two). After working on long term projects for the last weeks, I wanted to try something that could be begun and completed in the same session. We had discussed the idea of a large map collage two weeks ago and had decided on how we would do it. A limited colour palette was decided on ( blue/ green/ red) and that it would be an investigation into aesthetic/shape making/composition and refreshing our memories we went for it. The students worked well and I witnessed impressive tasks of sharing and delegation.
Prior to this we watched video footage taken by one of the students of our scroll map assembly line, I asked their permission to post online and I got a definite yes.
So we are in preparation for our trip to Tipp next week, an expedition and our own exhibition in the community Hall. We made flyers for the exhibition: simple text what/where/when on masking tape, stuck it on our hands and photocopied it. At one point a pot of glitter was found!!! The students used it to add to the photocopies, however, at the end we all decided it was a bad idea, glitter everywhere!! Well, we tried it and now we know. There was mounting excitement of the approaching week ahead, we are all looking forward to our expedition and exhibition.
