Drawing in response.

Today was a virtual contact day. My not physically being in the classroom but rather within my own studio space affects the way in which I perform and interact as an artist.

I was aware that I was missing out on visually observing P2 going about their group drawing but because I had head phones on I was really picking up the audio within the room. I was privy to their discussion in a much more intimate way than I would have been had I been in the classroom. Some of this, of course, was due to being denied one form of information - the visual,  and then directing my own focus wholly upon another - the audio. The mike picks up sound in a particular way. Unlike the brain it does not select any one strand over another and does not filter out the "background". I did not have control over the audio I was receiving - a beautiful broad weave of the pupils discussing their individual cress diary drawings, negotiations as to what the group drawings should entail and the activity of going about the process of collective drawing.

I am reconsidering  the idea of "collaborative drawing" . I decided to respond while P2 talked, using an A2 sheet of paper and charcoal. I hadn`t drawn, charcoal to paper, in years!

See image above.
