Project Outline

Project summary by the artist, Ann Henderson

"Further Afield" is a follow-on from the pilot project " Space and Place" -

(please refer to archived projects, "Space and Place"at  journal.kidsown.ie )

Ann Henderson aims to expand upon the understanding of the idea "artist in residence" within a school context, and is constantly searching for ways to communicate her practice as an artist.

"Further Afield" facilitates this exploration via the creative use of remote communications, using Marratech software.

The artist believes that through a combination of "real" and virtual collaborative experiences she can embark upon exchange around "a wider practice". The remote communications aspect to the project allows the artist to work from her studio online with others. This opens up a another dimension in terms of what , why and how she is communicating as an artist.

The artist is partnered with teachers and pupils from Ballydown Primary School, Co.Down; for the first block of the project with teacher Judith White and 30 pupils in P2 class, all 5/6 yrs old and for the second project block with teacher Julie Orr and 31 pupils in P5, aged 8 to 9 years.

Further Afield also includes another collaborative partnership in the artist Ann Donnelly working with Marcella Wilson and pupils at Donaghy Primary School, Co Tyrone
