The Nature of Sligo
Week 8. Thursday 29th Jan.
Introduced the children to the sound-editing programme that I have and played a number of sound recordings back that had been recorded last week.
Talked about the sound-scape project to generate ideas and to get them thinking about their approach, development and possible outcomse.
Played a work that I had made last year which was a simple combination of image and text to show them the possibilities of combining sound, text and image.
Brought a number of the children out on field trip to record sounds in the landscape that they are familiar with and exploring the generation of sounds using found and natural materials.
Completed the butterfly cut outs and discussed possible ways of how these cut outs would manifest as a piece and the materials that I will need to bring in for this project next week.
I also asked them to draw their ideas and discuss possibilities for the installation.
They planted wildflower seeds in various containers that I had collected which the children will manage over the coming weeks that will eventually be planted out on the school grounds.
They drew this exercise in their sketch-books.
