The Nature of Sligo

Week 15th

Today we completed our collaborative poem work which proved very intense but a very valuable experience had by all.

`Things they leave behind`

We walk upon a carpet of green Lichen
beneath an old fashioned bridge,
there is a low trickling of a stream flowing.

Bunches of daisies and old conkers which have rotted away
litter the space - they feel rough but nice to touch.

A jungle of Ivy clinging as if it’s afraid to fall
camouflages a catterpillar on the wall.

Little red petals scattered across the ground like sprinkles on a bun.

Draping leaves suggest upside-down umbrellas.

Swallows above a field-mouse hole watch,

seeds blowing in the wind.

Tiny flowers bursting out of the horse chestnut tree with

branches like fingers around a spade digging the ground.

Grass sticks out of the stream like an island of mint,

as spiders float around worshipping the huge tree.

Long grass and rushes sweep down like elbows,

and the sound of a wood pigeon reminds us

of long summer evenings yet to come.

This text will be assembled next week against a number of digital drawing works that the children completed today.

The image and text will be merged with sounds recorded by the children from a previous session manifested as a final animated video work.
