The Nature of Sligo

Week 14th

Last week each child had written a response text or poem on the nature of Sooey, in particular the habitats that we visited on each session. These individual works were written into their sketch books, which Tomas and I had typed into the computer,  printed out and handed back to the children.

They were than asked to re-write the first draft. When completed we passed around the text pieces for a read asking them to highlight lines and phrases in the text that appealed to them.

When completed, I then typed up the new text from the lines that were marked/highlighted in the sketchbooks that were inspired by the first draft.

These lines were then projected onto the white board and over the following hour they rewrote, adapted and changed a number of the lines.

To be complete next week for our animation.

We asked them to come up with a title which was eventually settled on "Things We Leave Behind" coined by Steven.

We spent a hour outside drawing and identflying a number of plants these included; Tufted Vetch, Louse Wort, Wild Turnip and Lesser Celadine.

A very intense day as the text work was very challenging but very good.
