Butterflys, Chickens and other things

Day two went well. All the children were well prepared, they had their own drawings done to save time and to help them rmember and understand the design process. This week we did Tshirts and as the children chose their own ideas they were much more particular about the outcome, also a Tshirt is of more interest to a child really I think!

The staff in this school engage with great enthusiasm and find the work theraputic. Working in this environment can be stressfull, before we started it had not been a good day for one of the students in one of the classes, and this affects everyone.

I try to take what I think as a holistic approach, the aim is not just to encourage exploration amongst the children but to get the staff to be as confident in their ability to be creative with the children.

At the end of the workshop  we talked to the children about the idea to do a wall hanging with the school logo waxed into the center and their hands screen-printed around the edges. They are going to have stencils of the hand of every child in the senior section ready for next week, though it will probably be the followint week when we use them.

Next week I hope to get them out in that amazing garden and maybe looking at silhouettes in the tent, weather permitting!

I still want to make butterflies for that tent.
